InspireINk blog hop - Easter

Hello and welcome!

It’s InspireINK blog hop day today, and this time we’re getting ready for Easter.

I’ve been playing with one of my old favourite techniques, shaving-foam marbling, so I decided to use some fresh spring-flower-like colours and marble some boxes that just might hold some choccy eggs (as brought by the Easter Bunny) – or something else…
This technique is so easy, and it’s one of my favourites.   Back in my teaching days we used it a lot in art lessons with small children.  It’s “clean messy” - you get to splodge ink about but the shaving foam helps in the clean up!

If you’ve never tried this before, you need a shallow container big enough to fit your item to be marbled into, some shaving foam (the cheaper the better!) and some water-soluble colours.  I used re-inkers and Brushos.

Spread a layer of shaving foam into your container,

drop or spray the colours onto the foam

and swirl them around a bit.

Then press your item onto the foam,

take it out again and scrape/wipe away the excess.  Job done!

I marbled the pizza box directly but for the treat container I marbled a sheet of card and then cut it to fit.  I used a template (see here for A4 paper and here for 8 ½ x 11 ) so I din’t have to sacrifice one of my containers to use as a pattern.  Then I embellished my treat container and mini pizza box with some stamped daffodils from the You're Inspiring set (love these!) coloured in with watercolour pencils for a delicate effect.   I’m really pleased with the way it turned out.

(If you want to see the whole project, I will be posting a tutorial on my YouTube channel in the near future.)

I hope you're enjoying the hop!  Thanks for dropping in, and do come again soon!

Keep crafting,

Keren

Tricky Treat Box

Hello, and welcome.

Do you ever come across an idea that is just so simple but just genius, you don't know how it's never been thought of before?

The closure to this box is one of those ideas.  I first saw it shared by Caroline Helwigh (Crafty Caroline) and I knew that I wanted to use it - and I've been waiting for just the right project ever since.

This box can hold a treat - but there's a trick to opening it!

The band that holds it closed doesn't slide off ( it's stuck to the bottom of the box).  Instead, you need to slide the sentiment all the way over to the left.  Only then can you get to whatever goodies are inside!  Isn't that clever?

Of course, there's a tutorial - just visit my YouTube channel!

I saved some time by using the Stampin' Up! mini pizza boxes.  I love how these store flat and are so sturdy.  I use them for storing my small odds and ends (like beads) as well as for small gifts.  So useful!

So that's today's project!  Thanks for visiting me!

Keep crafting!

Heat embossed mini pizza box

Hello and welcome.

Isn't modern technology wonderful?  'm dictating this to my phone while my car is parked at the side of the road and I'm waiting for my husband to come back from his parents' house.   I can be doing something useful when otherwise I'd be twiddling my thumbs, and save time for crafting...marvelous!

I really can't get enough of playing with these mini pizza boxes. As well as being super useful for giving small gifts,  they're very handy for keeping little bits and pieces of crafty stuff in. In case you haven't seen one of these, the inside is coated with a glossy surface, which is great  if you want to gift things like sweets or biscuits.  The outer surface is super-smooth and  takes colour  very well.
I wondered how well heat embossing would work on one of these pizza boxes , so I gave it a try . And guess what?  It worked very well indeed . Here's the video  -

After I finished making this video, I thought I'd go back and embellish the box a bit more.  So this is the Blogger exclusive video for today -  and it's actually longer than the main YouTube video! I do hope you enjoy it!

Keep crafting,

Trick or Treat - Mini Pizza Box

Hello - and welcome!

Have you seen the mini pizza boxes in the Stampin' Up! Autumn/Winter catalogue?

I'm stocking up on them - so useful for keeping small items organised, and until you need them they fold flat so don't take up much room at all.
They come in white - but as you can see from the photo at the top of this post, they take being coloured really well.

Of course, because it's nearly Halloween, today's project is for a Trick or Treat box - but you could decorate your boxes to suit whatever you needed them for (holding party favours, perhaps?)

Here's the tutorial -

Halloween is my favourite celebration of the year and I'm so looking forward to it - how about you?

Keep crafting!

Crafty Hugs,

Keren
