InspireINk blog hop - Easter

Hello and welcome!

It’s InspireINK blog hop day today, and this time we’re getting ready for Easter.

I’ve been playing with one of my old favourite techniques, shaving-foam marbling, so I decided to use some fresh spring-flower-like colours and marble some boxes that just might hold some choccy eggs (as brought by the Easter Bunny) – or something else…
This technique is so easy, and it’s one of my favourites.   Back in my teaching days we used it a lot in art lessons with small children.  It’s “clean messy” - you get to splodge ink about but the shaving foam helps in the clean up!

If you’ve never tried this before, you need a shallow container big enough to fit your item to be marbled into, some shaving foam (the cheaper the better!) and some water-soluble colours.  I used re-inkers and Brushos.

Spread a layer of shaving foam into your container,

drop or spray the colours onto the foam

and swirl them around a bit.

Then press your item onto the foam,

take it out again and scrape/wipe away the excess.  Job done!

I marbled the pizza box directly but for the treat container I marbled a sheet of card and then cut it to fit.  I used a template (see here for A4 paper and here for 8 ½ x 11 ) so I din’t have to sacrifice one of my containers to use as a pattern.  Then I embellished my treat container and mini pizza box with some stamped daffodils from the You're Inspiring set (love these!) coloured in with watercolour pencils for a delicate effect.   I’m really pleased with the way it turned out.

(If you want to see the whole project, I will be posting a tutorial on my YouTube channel in the near future.)

I hope you're enjoying the hop!  Thanks for dropping in, and do come again soon!

Keep crafting,

Keren

InspireINK blog hop - Winter Thanks

Hello, and welcome!
It's InspireINK Blog Hop day, when this blog links up with others the challenge to bring you lots of inspiration!  This time the theme is Winter Thanks - just what we need after Christmas, with all those Thank-you notes to be written!(Did Santa bring you what you were hoping for for Christmas? I hope so!)

This is what I've made.  I wanted the front of the card to look like a lovely snuggly jumper, so I used the Cable Knit embossing folder, with the flax ribbon in a fake knot as a (sort-of) scarf.

It's not easy to see the texture of the embossing in the picture - so I've zoomed  and brightened it up a bit so you can see it better.  It really is just like a cable-knit woolly!

Thank you for stopping by!  To continue the blog hop, click the link in the "next" button below - but don't forget to come back and visit me again soon!

InspireINK Bog Hop - Secret Santa

Hello, and welcome!
It's InspireINK Blog Hop day, when this blog links up with others the challenge to bring you lots of inspiration!  This time the theme is  -

In other words, a bag or a box or some way of packaging a gift for a Secret Santa. Here's how mine came out.

(The gift inside is a little manicure set.  We have a price limit of £1 for Secret Santa at our office so it came from the Pound shop - what a bargain!)

After measuring the case of the manicure set, I drew a plan and worked out the dimensions of the card I was going to need.  The case was 4 1/4" by 2 3/4" and about 1/2" deep so I wanted my finished box to be 4 1/2" by 3" by 3/4" deep. Here is the plan-
Did you notice the ribbon rose? I made that by tying knots in a length of double sided ribbon, then coiling it up and hot gluing it to a circle of card.
(Yes, there will be a tutorial - check my YouTube channel in the next few days!)

So that's my contribution to the hop.  Next is Tina, so please click on the link below to see what she's been up to to inspire you!

InspireINK Blog Hop - Colour challenge

Hello, and welcome!  It's Inspireink Blog Hop day, when this blog links up with others the challenge to bring you lots of inspiration!  This time the theme has been  set by lovely Lisa Emslie, and it's a colour challenge this time.

Here are the colours Lisa has chosen.
I admit, I was a bit stumped by this one, so when in doubt - turn to Pinterest!

I found this sketch by Pamela Young which I liked, so that's what I decided to use as my inspiration.

I cut 1 inch squares of the three colours  and mounted them on a whisper white base- so simple! I really like the clean and uncluttered card front, not my usual style but I find it quite striking.  This would be a great masculine card, but honestly, you could send it to anyone.

I hope you're enjoying the blog hop.  The next stop is with Tina, so if you'll just kindly click on the "next blog" image below, you'll be whisked away to find out what she's got in store for you!
