Up and Away wiper card

Hello, and welcome!

Today I've been making this wiper card.  These are very popular right now.  In case you haven't seen this kind of action card, when you pull gently at the edges of the card, the pop-up arm appears (like a windscreen wiper).

Here's how it looks in the open position.

I've been making this kind of card for a long time (one of my earliest YouTube tutorials was a wiper card)  but I'd never thought of making the front panel a different height from the back until I saw some of the inspirational cards being posted on YouTube and Pinterest.  Then I couldn't believe that I hadn't thought of it before!

Here's how I made this one.

Don't you think that the hot air balloons are so suitable for this card?  I'm rather sorry that they will be retiring when the new catalogue goes live at the beginning of June, but they've been around for a while, so I can't complain!

Up and Away

Hello and thank you for visiting my blog today!

The past few days the weather has been absolutely lovely - warm and sunny, not too hot - just about perfect.  And it was a public holiday weekend as well so we had an extra day to enjoy it all.  

Wouldn't it be just amazing to be up in the clouds in a balloon on a day like that?  One of my cherished memories is of watching hot air balloons in flight over the town where I was living.  They were so beautiful and so silent, sailing overhead agianst a blue, blue sky.  I couldn't manage a real hot air balloon but I did make this card, which reminds me of that time.

The card hides a twist and pop mechanism.  This is one of my favourite action cards.  Once you get the hang of it, they are easy to make.

Here's how I made this one.

I'm so happy that the dies and stamps will be carrying over to the new catalogue.  They are so useful for cards for all ages and are very gender-neutral, don't you think?

Beautiful Balloon

Hello there, and welcome to my blog!

I love hot air balloons.  I've never been up in one (and not sure that I really want to - I understand that landing can be a bit bumpy) but watching them gliding through the sky is an amazing experience.  

So as soon as I saw the Up & Away dies they went to the top of my wish list.  

Today i've made a card based on  a technique I saw Jennifer McGuire demonstrate.  I'd never have thought of using tulle in and aperture card, but it works so well!

Up and Away - Twist Pop-up card

Hello bloggists, and welcome.
If you follow my blog or subscribe to my YouTube channel, you might have realised that I enjoy making action cards and I'm always happy when I come across a style I haven't made before.

 I made one of these twist pop up cards back in the summer. They were really popular at the time, with lots of people making them.  I followed these instructions to make my first one.

However, since then, I've discovered that I already had instructions for a different method of achieving the same result in one of my favourite reference books (Pop-up!a Manual of Paper Mechanisms, by Duncan Birmingham, in case you're interested.  The book is out of print, but you might be able to find a second-hand copy.)

This kind of card is very impressive but not really that hard to make.  Give it a try!
