Discovering Brushos

Hi everyone, and welcome!

Today’s blog is a bit different. Just for once, I wanted to take some time to talk about techniques that you can use in your crafting.

Brushos on Shimmery White

I’m a bit of a technique-o-holic, just between you and me. Before I discovered Stampin’ Up! most of my crafting was based around mixed media/altered art. I love getting inky and painty.

So I quite literally did a happy dance when I spotted Brushos in the catalogue, because that means that I can use them in my SU projects without teasing you!

I used them in different ways on different surfaces-
and I will be using the results as a base for future projects. I'm not going to explain the techniques in detail in future, so I wanted to spend a bit of time now showing you some of the ways these pots of brilliant colour can be used.

Brushos on Glossy White

I may be a little bit addicted to the starch-and-cling-film technique. I used to be a primary school teacher and many of the ways of using colours are things I used to do with my classes - but I wouldn't have used spray starch with young children because of concerns about safety, so this one is new to me!

I was particularly pleased with the way Glossy White card came out-
it's more of a satin finish than gloss and the starch doesn't leave quite so much texture but the colours are super-vibrant.

They work well with a stamped and embossed resist image as well. For a super-bright contrast, I would use white embossing powder - I used clear here and colours did bleed a bit underneath.

I had so much fun and I'm so happy with the results. What do you think?

Wax Paper Resist

Hi everyone and welcome to my blog.

I will admit that the photo with today's blog post isn't the clearest. So I'm going to go right in with the video tutorial -

I hope you've now got a better idea of the waxed paper resist technique. So easy and you get two backgrounds for the price of one- bargain! I also hope you liked the ribbon rose - I learned this technique about a year ago and it's become one of my favourites.

With any luck, my photography skills will have improved by next time!

Glossy Card Sunrise

Hello and welcome to my blog.

I've been playing with glossy card again. There are so many techniques that you can use with it and I have so many ideas for projects - and you can be sure that I'll be sharing them with you!

Today I've been blending colours onto my card. Glossy card makes it so easy to get a lovely smooth blend.

Here's what I did -

By the way, the inspiration for this card came from the credits of Tenko, a BBC TV series that I used to enjoy. The series was about women interned during the second World War - not the most cheerful subject - but the programmes began with an image of a beautiful sunrise and that's something that stuck with me.

Simply Sketched 20

This time we've been set a colour challenge by Hannah - here are the colours -

I made a card base out of Smoky Slate, picked out re-inkers in the remaining colours and some Glossy White card. I sprayed the glossy card with water and dropped blogs of ink onto the surface while it was still wet and then - blew on the ink to move it around. In my days as an Early Years teacher, we used to get the pupils to use drinking straws. I used the air duster spray you get for cleaning computer components, which was much less like hard work.

Here's the result (embellished with a bit of ribbon and some heat embossing)
