It's a gift!

Hello and welcome!

I have to admit to having a substantial craft stash. I've been paper crafting for nearly 20 years, but in truth I've been crafting in some form or another for most of my life, beginning with embroidery when I was a small girl (I loved going to choose new skeins of thread - the colours were entrancing!). Over time I've accumulated quite a pile of things. And as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator (and therefore entitled to a nice discount) I've got quite a bit of SU goodies.

But if you're just starting, it's not possible to have EVERYTHING at once (unless you're fabulously wealthy). So what would be my must-haves?

Once you've got a few stamps and some ink pads, top of my list would be a die-cutting machine. There are quite a few around, but my go-to machine is the Big Shot. (I've had mine since 2005 and it's still going strong.)

Today's project features die-cuts, all from one set of thinlets. No stamps, no inks, just paper, a snowflake embellishment and a bit of tinsel trim.

Birthday card for my (grown-up!) baby

Hello and welcome to my blog!

This should have been a straightforward card. My younger son's birthday is later this month (he's 30 - how is that possible? I'm only 24! 😆 ) and I wanted to make his card.

It turned into a bit of a learning curve. To begin with, I forgot that ink takes FOREVER to set on vellum and wiped off the embossing. I also made a hash of trimming the vellum strip to size. I thought I'd filmed myself correcting it, but can't find the clip (it may have been a casualty of the great iMac collapse of 2017 - see my previous post for details!)

Anyway, in case you wanted to know, I straightened out my wonky trimming by going old-school - I used a craft knife and ruler. I was awake enough to remember to use a cutting mat - then decided to trim the edge of the card while I was at it, but after I'd put the cutting mat away...and cut right through my silicone mat. Sigh. Luckily, I wasn't filming that bit, because I said some very Bad Words.

Silver snowflakes

Hello everyone, and welcome!

OK, I know it's still October, but the festive season will be here sooner than you think...so today I've made a card with a wintry look that could be a Christmas card - or a winter birthday card.

See that background paper? That's from the Year of Cheer set, which is gold and silver foiled on Whisper White - but it takes colour really, really well. Here's the tutorial -

Box & Candle

Hello, and welcome. Today I've been getting ready for the festive season by doing some box making.

It's another short post today. I'm on the mend (hooray!) - but it's been a difficult week. It should be against the law to have sciatica and a stomach bug at the same time, that's all I will say! Thanks for the good wishes - I do appreciate them.

Anyway, luckily, Mysti the cat has been around to help. If you keep watching to the end of the tutorial, you can see how she's been helping me.

Hey there, Polar Bear!

Hello everyone, and welcome!

Well, have you seen the new catalogue yet? (If not - there's a link at the bottom of the page to the pdf version, or you can request one from your demonstrator - I'll be happy to help if you don't have one)

If you have, you might have noticed the oh-so-stunning Year of Cheer suite on page 37. The DSP is really gorgeous! It's a good weight for box making so I'm planning on using it to package gifts - they'll look so elegant. I couldn't resist using a little bit of it on this card.

Aren't the A Little Wild stamps so cute? They're designed so that they can be used as gift tags but you don't have to use them just for that. I've used the back view of the bear (you could say it was a bear behind!) and coloured it to look like a polar bear.

I'm really pleased with the way the aurora borealis technique worked on glossy card too!
