Mad as a box of frogs!

Hello and welcome!

I find ideas for my projects in all sorts of places. Sometimes it’s a combination of colours I like, or it might be a picture on Pinterest of Facebook. Other people’s YouTube is often a source of inspiration too, as it the Stampin’ Up! Catalogue (lots of good ideas in there – definitely worth taking a look) and crafting magazines.

The inspiration for today’s item was the paper from the Toil and Trouble DSP, which made me think of the phrase “mad as a box of frogs”. So I made a box of frogs (with a frog inside, too!)

I thought I’d share the process I go through when calculating how big to cut my card when I’m making a box for an irregularly-shaped object. Here’s the tutorial.

I want to thank Dawn Griffith for the idea to use the Fox Builder punch to make the frog embellishment – I meant to say so in the tutorial but I got a bit carried away and forgot to do it. Who would have thought that the punch is so versatile?

So that’s it for now, but I will be blogging again soon.

Pop-up "Boo!"

Hello, and welcome!

Who loves Halloween? I do! When I was a small child, we didn't really make a big thing about October 31 - the big excitement was November 5th, or Bonfire Night. Halloween was a night for staying home and playing games like trying to take bites out of an apple suspended on a string while blindfold and with hands behind the back. Pumpkins were pretty much unknown in South Wales so if you wanted a Jack O'Lantern you had to hollow out a swede or turnip (and if you've ever tried doing that you'll know just how hard it is to do!)

I'm so excited when I see the Halloween items in the shops nowadays and I so enjoy crafting Halloween -themed items.

Today it's a pop-up card.

The pop-up is based on a v-fold mechanism, which is one of the simplest pop-ups. The main thing to be careful about is where you place the pop-up element, because you need to allow enough room so that the pop-up bit doesn't show when the card is closed.

Toil & Trouble Treat Pouches

When I was a kiddie, on hot summer days (I'm sure we used to have some!), my friends and I would spend all day playing out in the sunshine. There were playing fields and a children's playground at the top of our village and that's where we'd be.

OK, I know it's October but stay with me, I'm getting to the point! One of the treats that we'd buy from the sweetshop near the fields was a block of frozen orange drink known as a Jubbly. It came in a container that was shaped just like these treat pouches (only much bigger - with care a Jubbly could last most of the afternoon!)

These pouches are very quick to make and embellish and would be perfect if you're expecting to give away lots of treats this Halloween! The pumpkin and the witches' hats are fussy-cut out of the Toil and Trouble DSP, which sounds like a lot of work but is something I would do while watching TV of an evening!

Spooky Bats

Hello, and welcome!

Earlier this year I came across the prettiest little gift bag, made by Caroline van Straaten. It was done using the gift bag punch board and I just loved it, so of course I had to CASE (Copy And Share Everything) it. And more than that, I loved it SOOO much that I had to do it again…

I made a couple of changes to the original. First of all, I adjusted the measurements because I wanted a 6-panel bag, rather than the original 5. And I folded the top edge in, instead of out. And I didn’t use the Gift Bag Punch Board.
