Free asa a Bird - Rainfall Card

Hello, and welcome!

I've been intrigued by the magic rainfall cards I've been seeing around the interwebs of late. These have beads strung onto invisible thread and when you tilt the card, the beads run from one end to the other, like this -

This is one of those cards that I could play with for ages. The sound of the beads running along the thread is very soothing.

Here's how I made the card -

Wouldn't you love to get a card like this one? Although it took a bit of time to make, I think the results were worth it.

Tealights for Two

Hello, and welcome!

OK, so I may just have become a tiny bit obsessed with Lemon Lime Twist!

It’s going to be retiring as an In-Colour at the end of May, so the time that I have left to play with it is limited and I’m making the most of it!

Today I’ve made a little box with a fold-over lid, pizza box style. I made it to fit two tea lights, and to help me get the size right I made myself a calculator.

Here's how I put the box together -

Even with the spreadsheet to help me, I managed to make a mistake. When I measured my tea lights, I measured one, added a bit on for “ease” and then doubled the length measurement to fit two. That made my box a bit too long – not the end of the world, I grant you. I SHOULD have doubled the length and THEN added on the ease for a perfect fit. You live and learn!

Did you notice that I'm using up the left-overs from the card I marbled with shaving foam? Couldn't waste it, could I?

Mini Milk Carton

Hello, and welcome!

As I'm writing this, summer seems a long way away. It's pretty cold here - well, by our standards of cold. Even though this morning's sunrise was glorious (this was the view from my window today) it's still chilly!

So today I thought I'd make something using this gorgeous paper.

It makes me think of days in the summer sun.

Partitioned box

Hello bloggists, and welcome. Today I've made what appears to be a simple pizza-box style box. I make lots of these, they are so easy to do and useful for holding all sorts of small gifts. I used the speciality paper from the Eastern Palace DSP on the lid - isn't that foiling glorious?

However, the real feature of this box is inside. I've partitioned it off into four compartments to help stop the contents rattling around inside. I've made it to present four tealights , but it could hold other stuff (like handmade chocolates, maybe?)

There was a bit of effort involved in making this one, not to mention some brain strain in trying to work out the best way to create the liner to meet my idea of what I wanted, but I got pretty close in the end. Here's what I did-

I promised to post the measurements and cutting diagram here, so here it is - the liner first -

Here's the measurements for the shell.

I recommend using the broader end of the scoring tool to give yourself a bit of latitiude when folding. The liner is a tiny bit too small - because I didn't want to be working with sixteenths of an inch (they make my head ache) - so you will need to fit the shell around the liner and trim it a bit. It does make the lid fit better, though.
